Mounted atop huge elephants and wielding long mallets, the Chivas Regal Scotland team nabs its second King's Cup Elephant Polo title Sunday, after scoring a golden goal in overtime to beat Thailand's Mullis Capital, 6-5. About 1,500 people watched the fifth annual charity game, which raises money for Thailand's National Elephant Institute in Lampang. The tournament took place near Hua Hin, 80 miles southwest of Bangkok.

In the midst of a Toronto neighborhood rests a 13-1/2 foot bronze and granite monument depicting Alexander Wood, famous for both owning the land on which the community now sits, and for being run out of town due to sexual scandal in the early 1800s. The statue of a hero in Toronto's gay community is the cause of concern both for the actions of the man it depicts and for the somewhat graphic description of the 19th-Century sex scandal that made him famous.

A British couple revealed Wednesday that they drove from the north of Scotland to the south of Italy without leaving their vehicle to use the restroom. They didn't need to, their portable toilet drove with them. Biochemist James Shippen and his colleague Barbara May took almost a week to complete the trip, using what they claim to be the first lavatory ever installed in a car.
