A man who has been robbing customers of Apple stores in Manhattan, New York City since January has been arrested, police said Tuesday.
Police ended Dwayne Stewart's computer-grabbing spree on May 6, when they traced to him one of the stolen computers brought by an unsuspecting buyer from an electronic shop, where the thief pawned it. Stewart has been charged with robbery and his bail has been set at $50,000.
A complaint filed with the Manhattan Criminal Court said Stewart admitted to police that he robbed three people in Greenwich Village and SoHo in two weeks. He snatched an iPod from a 16-year-old victim on the night of Jan. 15 and held up and grabbed the computer of a 50-year-old business executive on Jan. 20. Stewart also confessed to shoving a 25-year-old man to the ground and taking his computer.
All victims have been watched by Stewart buying items at the Apple stores. After the customers leave the store, he pounced on them a few blocks away and ran away with the stolen gadgets.
