A San Diego designer is giving her $215 shoes away...for free.

The shoes not only serve as footwear, but are also designed for migrants who are trying to enter the country.

The Associated Press describes the shoe as a compass and flashlight dangle from one shoelace. The pocket in the tongue is for money or pain relievers. A rough map of the border region is printed on a removable insole.

The shoes -- named Brinco, or Spanish for "Jump" -- were introduced at inSite, an art exhibition in San Diego and Tijuana whose sponsors include nonprofit foundations and private collectors.

Judi Werthein, an Argentine artist, designed the shoes and passes them out to migrants along the border.
