Shoppers are crowding the malls as they wrap up their Holiday gift buying. Electronics are the big buy for gifts as retailers mark the last week of holiday season shopping with hopes of high sales.

Today is what's known in the retail world as "Last Saturday," the final Saturday before Christmas. Dec. 24 falls on a Saturday, but most malls and national chain stores will close early that day because it's Christmas Eve.

In recent years, the "Last Saturday" has become more of a make-or-break day for retailers than Black Friday, the much-heralded start of the season. The Saturday before Christmas topped the list of busiest days in 2001, 2002 and 2004. In 2003, Black Friday bumped "Last Saturday" into the No. 2 busiest day spot.

CNN reports electronics are the most popular gifts. NPD Group market analyst Marshal Cohen said footwear, home decor products and appliances are big this year too. Personal audio systems, video games consoles, computers and televisions are selling well according to Ted McDougal, spokesman for Sears.

Fifty-eight percent of customers are expected to be done shopping by Monday.
