Seventy-seven miles in seven days.
That's how how far and how long it took the Siberian husky, Moon, to find her way home to Ely from Railroad Valley .
Moon's owner Doug Dashiell had given up hope of finding the less than two-year-old dog, who ran away April 6 as they were heading to a picnic with two other dogs in Tonopa.
But then White Pine Veterinary Clinic called him on April 14 with unbelievable news: in one week, Moon had walked all the way back to Ely!
According to reports, she had wandered up to Alvin Molea's house. He took her home, fed her and gave her a warm place to sleep.
Molea said he called the White Pine clinic because the dog was wearing a clinic tag.
According to the Ely Times, Moon had made it back unscathed - she was just in need of a bath owing to a skunk she may have chased, or ran across with, somewhere between Railroad Valley and Ely.
Dashiell speculated that Moon might have fed on rabbits during the seven days she was missing.
"I've had trouble with her running away before. She's always come home," Dashiell said in an Ely Times interview, but he admitted that this time he didn't really expect her to show up.
