American Idol isn't the only "Idol" making international news. In Australia, siblings competing for the "Idol" spot are becoming rather common. This year, Jessica Mauboy, the 2006 Australian Idol Runner-up, may see older sister Catharine on the competition stage in front of Ian "Dicko" Dickson, Marcia Hines, Mark Holden, and Kyle Sandilands vying for the 2007 title.
Lavina Williams, sister of 2005 runner-up Emily Williams, made it to the 2006 finals along with Chris Murphy, who is 2004 contestant Courtney's brother.
Seventeen-year-old Jessica supports her sister Catharine's decision to compete in the competition, which kicks off March 3rd in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, but according to Bang Showbiz, she doesn't think Catharine will go through with it. "She keeps saying 'I will try out, I will, you watch me'. But I have a feeling when the time does come she won't do it," said Jessica. "We will see."
Jessica, who lost the 2006 Idol title to Damien Leith, is going to school and writing songs for her debut album which will be released late 2007. She admitted to being exhausted after the show and experiencing a mini emotional breakdown.
The album "The Journey," features tracks from the year's Australian Idol performances and is due to hit stores February 24th.
