Singaporean authorities have given a blogger a stern warning but refused to send him to jail for mocking Jesus Christ on the Internet.

Police said Thursday, "After careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, in consultation with attorney-general's chamber, we have decided to issue a stern warning to the offender in lieu of prosecution."

The 21-year-old man first posted in January a cartoon depicting Jesus Christ as a zombie biting a boy's head. The post triggered a wave of protest and request to remove the blog.

Instead the man taunted the senders and posted more caricatures of Jesus.

Singapore has a strict law against inciting communal tensions being a multi-racial island nation. Last year, two ethnic Chinese men were put to prison for posting anti-Muslim blogs in the Web.

The Strait Times said the man could face a possible sentence of up to three years or a fine of $ 3,150 dollars or both if convicted under the Sedition Act.
