A Florida Sheriff's deputy used a shock from a Taser gun to subdue an intoxicated 13-year-old San Carlos Park girl who attacked two nurses at Lee Memorial Hospital early Thursday. The teen later was cleared medically by hospital staff and sent to the Lee County Juvenile Assessment Center on charges ranging from loitering to battery and resisting arrest.

David Scheiding is suing a local Arby's restaurant for $50,000 after claiming he found a slice of skin in his chicken sandwich. On June 18, Scheiding says he realized something was wrong when he bit into his chicken sandwich and found a piece of skin about three-fourths of an inch long. "It looked like I was seeing fingerprints on it," he said. "I got sick and went to the bathroom. " Health investigators spoke to the restaurant manager, who had a bandage on his right thumb and wore a latex glove. The manager says he sliced his thumb while shredding lettuce and immediately sanitized the area, but did not throw away the lettuce. Scheiding filed the lawsuit after rejecting a settlement offer from GZK Inc. , which owns the Arby's in Tipp City, Ohio.

A Seattle man undergoing emergency heart surgery went up in flames on the operating table after alcohol that was poured on his skin was ignited by surgical instruments. The patient later died due to heart failure and not of injuries relating to the fire, said Dr. Robert Caplan, medical quality director of Virginia Mason. Although it happened in October 2003, it has only now been revealed after an anonymous letter was sent to the media. The letter mentioned the incident as evidence of unsafe health care at the hospital, and said the patient burned to death.
