A British cheese described as smelling like old socks is being made into a perfume.

The Stilton Cheese Makers Association has hired a company to create Eau de Stilton, a perfume based on the pungent blue-veined cheese.

The association's Web site says the scent will feature a "symphony of natural base notes including Yarrow, Angelica seed, Clary Sage and Valerian."

An association spokesman says, "Blue Stilton cheese has a very distinctive mellow aroma and our perfumier was able to capture the key essence of that scent and recreate it in an unusual but highly wearable perfume."
