Manila's bus and taxi drivers have been given a friendly reminder to bathe and shower on a daily basis, due to an overwhelming amount of complaints by local commuters who are fed up with the smell at the front of buses, taxis, and trains, saying that the city's 30,000 drivers simply stink.

Bayani Fernando, chairperson of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, says, "We understand that drivers must earn money to support themselves and their respective families.

"It is only right that in return, these drivers must observe proper hygiene.

"If they have body odor or armpit odor, ask the advice of doctors for treatment. But I think if they only take a bath every day, and maybe they can use "tawas" or deodorant, then there would be no problem."

Temperatures in the Philippine capital can reach the high 90s from mid-March to mid-May.
