Dutch Prohibit Smoking Tobacco But Not Marijuana

A nationwide ban on smoking tobacco in enclosed places began here Tuesday, but Dutch cafes and restaurants will permit patrons to smoke marijuana inside their premises. Some 200 inspectors of the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority will ensure compliance to the ban by cafes across the country. The inspectors have been trained to detect tobacco and marijuana, which is allowed in licensed coffee shops.

A new law will go into effect on July 1 banning smoking tobacco indoors throughout the Netherlands. What this means for Amsterdam's historic coffee shops, where smoking tobacco laced with marijuana is more of the main draw, remains up for debate. According to reports, coffee shop owners say the new ban should not effect them because 'coffee shops' are a place where people go to smoke. They say it is preposterous for the ban to extend to their shops, just as it would be for food to be banned from restaurants, or alcohol from a bar.

The birthday celebrator, British 16-year-old Jodie Hudson, and her mother Amanda learned too late the disaster the online invitation would cause to their luxurious Marbella vacation villa, which suffered ruined walls, destroyed carpets, and broken banisters, doors and furniture.

Poll: Three Smoking Breaks A Day Equals One Year Worth Of Working Hours

n average worker wastes almost one year of his or her working life puffing away on cigarettes, a new poll revealed. Three 15-minute smoking breaks a day cost employers 195 working hours a year for each worker. That is equivalent to 8,677 hours in an average 44-year working lifetime or simply put, nearly a whole year smoking instead of working.

Starving Seoul Man Arrested For Attempting To Eat Landlady's Dog

52-year-old man, identified only as Park, was caught for attempting to cook his landlady's pet Chihuahua. The incident happened in a boarding house in Jongno in the capital Seoul. The man reportedly took the pet Chihuahua inside his room in the boarding house which his 69-year-old landlady was in the bathroom. He killed the dog and attempted to cook it, unfortunately his clothes caught fire and emitted smoke.
