A British man who brought traffic to a standstill when he staged a anti-China protest dressed as Spiderman, won his appeal Friday against his jail sentence, his lawyer said.
Matt Pearce, 30, has been convicted of causing a public nuisance when he scaled a giant street-side video screen on a building in June last year dressed as the comic-book super hero. The stunt was staged to draw attention to commemorations of the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen pro-democracy crackdown in Beijing.
Though the High Court has dismissed his appeal against his conviction, he has now been given a suspended sentence, lawyer Michael Vidler said.
High Court also overturned Pearce's other conviction when he ran onto a local racecourse wearing a horse costume to protest for democracy.
