A New Zealand man, rejected by the woman of his dreams, launched a scavenger hunt for the diamond engagement ring he bought her.

Using his Twitter account to post clues to the ring's whereabouts, the hunt will begin Saturday in Wellington, New Zealand's capital.

Anthony Gardiner, 29, a call-center worker, bought the $5,000 diamond ring last September in Hong Kong. He couldn't return it, and he didn't want to sell the ring to anyone else, so he came up with the idea of giving it away, Wellington's Dominion Post reported.

Gardiner wouldn't want to give the ring to a future love. "Obviously, it's a pretty unlucky ring for me," he told the Post.

Gardiner will post several clues to the ring's location Saturday, staying close by so he can congratulate the lucky hunter.

He hopes that whomever finds the ring will be someone who's "found a cool chick and who wants to give them something they normally wouldn't be able to afford," he told the Post.

The Twitter clues will turn to directions if no one finds the ring by the end of Saturday.

Gardiner's Twitter account has spiked to over 1,000 followers, some hoping to find the ring, other major media outlets like The New York Times are following for the story.

Though the hunt for the ring is fueled by technology, his story of love lost is a simple one, he told the Post.

"I met this girl I thought was pretty cool, bought a ring, turns out she wasn't as keen."
