A girl in Sydney, Australia who police officials allege died of starvation a few weeks ago was finally given private funeral services in a small chapel on Friday but her funeral attracted only six mourners.
Apparently, not a single member of 7-year-old Shellay Ward's immediate family was around during the mass, which was arranged by her paternal relatives.
According to BBC News report, the mourners included three old women, a young blonde woman, the officiator over the private service and a police media spokeswomen who covered the funeral.
Earlier investigations by police authorities revealed that Ward, who weighed only 9 kilograms, allegedly died of starvation and dehydration in the family's home.
The child was found lifeless on Nov.3 in the family's home in Hawks West, New South Wales when an emergency team responded after the father called for emergency help.
The girl's father however denied that her daughter had starved to death. The NSW government said an independent investigation will be conducted to review circumstances around the death.
