eing stingy cost an Iranian man more after he was ordered by the court to buy his neglected wife 124,000 red roses worth a total of $265,000.

Local newspaper Etemad reported that a woman named Hengameh claimed her mahr, or dowry after being married for ten years to her husband Shahin who according to her is so stingy that he cannot even pay for her coffee.

As a result of Hengameh's complaint, Iranian officials seized her husband's $64,460-worth apartment until he has finished buying 124,000 roses for his deprived wife. Shahin defended himself from accusations that he is stingy. According to him, her wife's 'billionaire friends' have brain washed her.

The dowry or mahr, an offering given by a man to a woman in a marriage, can be claimed anytime during the couple's married life or divorce. Under Iranian law, debts arising from mahr could send a man to prison.
