A man who reported a safe stolen from his home one month ago may now face charges, after police find almost one pound of marijuana inside.

The man told Delta County sheriff's deputies someone broke into his home on August 9 and took the 200-pound safe, which stored a rifle, muzzleloader, two knives, and a collection of silverdollars.

According to Detective Lt. Mike Gierke, deputies found the safe early Wednesday and called its owner to come down to the station to open it. When he did, they saw each item he described, along with the stash of pot and $500 in cash.

Gierke suspects the owner didn't count on authorities ever recovering the safe.

A tip led to the arrest of Joseph Henderson, 21, whom deputies believe stole the safe. He was arraigned Wednesday in Delta County District Court on one count of home invasion.

Charges have not been sought against the safe's owner, but Gierke says his arrest is pending.
