Howard White, owner of the Century Lounge, a strip club near Los Angeles International Airport, is getting flack for his latest ad campaign: A sign outside the establishment reading, "Vaginas R' Us."

Laurie Hughes, executive director of Gateway to L.A., an association promoting businesses along Century Boulevard, says the city is working to ensure the club is adhering to all codes.

White posted the sign Tuesday and says he's simply advertising his business.

City officials say the sign does not break the law. City Councilman Bill Rosendahl says the word vagina is not an obscene word and his office is not in a position to question the first amendment.

A spokeswoman for Toys R Us says the company is aware of the sign and will be "looking into it immediately."

For the time being, White will have to take his sign down temporarily; because the sign is made of combustible plastic vinyl and violates municipal code, White was hit with a citation Thursday and has until the close of business Sunday to replace or remove the sign.
