A strip-tease has spurred Australian Government sponsors to pull their money from the Australian National University campaign on global warming.
Event coordinators thought the 45-minute show complete with women dressed in corsets covered in balloons would serve as light-hearted entertainment for the global warming conference. Instead it had some delegates walking out of the room. The show was cut after 10 minutes.
Rebecca Gale, who led the show, said the women were tasteful. The women danced to Peggy Lee's "Fever" and invisted guests to pop the balloons on their clothes.
She told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio, "The most that any of the girls get down to is vintage lingerie, which is corsetry and stockings. It's not like we were doing full nudity and simulating sexual acts or anything like that. There was not even a midriff on display."
ANU admitted that the entertainment might not be appropriate. In a statement the university apologized to those they offended. But Environment Minister Ian Campbell still pulled his department's $2,290 donation and the Agriculture Department pulled their $3,800
