British high school students will be able to get class credit for puppet shows in a government plan being considered for 2008.

High school students will be able to get credit for a project that is "a single piece of work requiring detailed planning, preparation and independent study" and education officials said that included works of art, plays and puppetry, according to published reports.

"Oral presentations could also be important, with the wider skills of problem solving and working with others," David Mackay, of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, told a conference.

When Ruth Kelly, the Education Secretary, disclosed the change a year ago, she said a project was "a single piece of work requiring detailed planning, preparation and independent study". It emerged Friday that works of art, plays and puppetry would also qualify.
