Feeling the pressure to do well on their college entrance exams, over 20 students in Vietnam paid up to 50 million dong ($3,125) for wigs and shirts wired to help them cheat, police said Monday.

As a result of Hanoi police raids over the weekend, 50 mobile phones, 60 earphones, 150 SIM cards, eight shirts and five wigs were confiscated, according to an officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

The wigs and shirts, which ranged in prices from $1,250 to $3,125, were wired to mobile phones so their wearers could call in test questions. The price of the wig/shirt varied depending on the popularity of the college the student was enrolling in.

Two students taking college entrance exams for Hanoi's Banking Institute gave the operation away Thursday when they were caught carrying cell phones.

Admittance to universities is very competitive in the country -- only about 10 percent of those who take the exams get in.
