Contrary to common notion that WAGs are nothing but party-loving clothes animals, a recent study conducted among sports wives and girlfriends revealed they are actually serious in their studies.

The government-funded Learning and Skills Council (LSC), says most of the so-called "Wags,' the popular acronym for wives and girlfriends of sportsmen, gained at least the equivalent of five good General Certificate of Certified Secondary Education (GCSE).

The LSC added that despite their image as vacuous followers of fashion, most Wags took their studies seriously with at least nine of England's highest profile Wags gaining five C grades in their GCSEs, or better.

LSC said that among the top scorers were Michael Carrick's partner Lisa Roughead, who holds a degree in business, and Michaela Henderson-Thynne, on-off flame of Stewart Downing, who is currently studying for a law degree
