Dutch researchers claim that human teeth, daisy petals, eggshells and white paint can be turned into cheap lenses, China's People's Daily Online reported on Wednesday.

The Chinese news Web site said the science news agency New Scientist reported that researchers at the Twente University in the Netherlands made the discovery.

The New Scientist quoted the research leader, Allard Mosk, as saying their experiments showed that the said materials can match the resolution of the most perfect microscope.

Although the said materials are not transparent, the researchers found that some lightwaves do pass through them. The finding led them to conclude that human teeth, daisy petals, eggshells and white paint can replace glass and plastic in making optical microscopes.
