A 29-year-old man in Argentina can always credit the cell phone for saving his life after the surgeons used its light to complete the last 20 minutes of an emergency appendix operation following a power cut.
The surgeons at the Policlinico Juan D. Peron hospital had no choice but to perform using the light of cell phone screens after the operating room lost power and the emergency generator too failed to work.
The surgeons and anesthetists were thinking of alternatives when a family member got some cell phones together from people outside and took them into the operation theatre to provide light.
Using the light from the cell phone, the surgeons saved the life of their male patient by stitching him up right before his anesthesia wore off.
