A surrogate mother in Belgium is under investigation for allegedly selling her baby girl over the internet for $24,000 to a Dutch couple.
The baby, named Donna, was born in February. The surrogate mother had agreed to bear the baby for a Belgian couple for nearly $13,000.
But she told the couple that she had had a miscarriage. It's alleged that the woman then opened bids on the internet for the baby.
The couple who won the bid have begun formal adoption procedures.
The original couple have gone to court to get the baby. They say a DNA test will show that the husband is the biological father of the child.
Belgian authorities have seized the woman's computer as part of the investigation.
Just two months before the baby's birth, the woman is also alleged to have offered the child to a gay couple for $16,000. The couple refused.
