A survey conducted on over 1,200 Indian men has found that condoms manufactured according to international standards are too big for most Indian men and now doctors are calling for smaller condoms to be made for the region.

The conclusion was made after the volunteers from all over the country had their penises measured precisely. At least 60 percent of the males have penises three to five centimeters shorter than international standards, that make condoms slip off.

Doctor Chander Puri, of the Indian Council of Medical Research, said there was a need in India for custom-made condoms. He also wants vending machines that dispenses condoms with varying sizes, be placed around the country.

Puri said, "There is anxiety talking about the issue. And normally one feels shy to go to a chemist's shop and ask for a smaller size condom."

But Sunil Mehra, former editor of the men's magazine Maxim Indian edition, said that Indian men should not be embarrassed with the size of their penises.

He said, "It's not size, it's what you do with it that matters. From our population, the evidence is Indians are doing pretty well."
