First ever "Survivor" winner Richard Hatch has been re-arrested just hours after he appeared on the "Today" show for an interview with Matt Lauer.
The 48-year-old, who was jailed for failing to pay taxes on the $1 million prize he won on the reality show, was serving the final months of his sentence on home confinement in his sister's Newport home.
On Tuesday, after he appeared on the NBC show and was interviewed by Lauer, he was taken into custody and is being held at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility.
According to the Providence Journal, he had not secured permission to appear on the show. Apparently, he has to get authorization for everything he does while on house arrest.
In an interview with Lauer, the openly gay reality show personality said he was discriminated by the judge in his case because of his sexual orientation. He also revealed that his imprisonment left him "financially devastated."
Hatch, a former corporate trainer, gained popularity when he joined the first "Survivor" edition in 2000. He became the ultimate winner and was awarded the $1 million cash prize, the subject of the tax evasion case he faced.
