A man is arrested by authorities who claim he was interferring, after saving a swimmer caught in swirling river currents. Dave Newman disobeyed repeated orders to leave the water. After rescuing the swimmer, he was charged with interferring with public duties. After Abed Duamni, 35 of Houston, Texas thanked Newman for saving his life in front of the police, he was taken into custody and later released on $2,000 bail.

An engineering student at London's Brunel University has created "smart goggles" for swimmers that log lengths and time. The Inview goggles display a lap count and time elapsed on their lenses so swimmers can track their progress - using a built-in compass to trigger when swimmers complete lap lengths.

Two Cable repairmen become heroes after rescuing a 10-year-old boy who feel into a swimming pool and remained under eight feet of water for several minutes. Jamario Covington fell into the pool, sunk to the bottom and stopped breathing. A babysitter thought he joking, but realized the boy was in trouble after considerable time passed.

Police found the man wandering near the beach in Kent, England. His suit was soaking wet, as if he'd just been swimming in the water and he refused to speak to anyone, offering no clues to his past. He was taken to a psychiatric hospital where he was given pen and paper. He drew a picture of a grand piano and a Swedish flag. When authorities escorted him to the hospital's chapel, he sat at the piano and played classical musical for hours.

Some local residents probably thought they were seeing things when they noticed what looked like an alligator swimming in a canal, but their eyes were not deceiving them. Animal control officers from Slidell and St. Tammany Parish captured a 10-foot long gator from a waterway along Gause Boulevard. The alligator will be taken to a nearby swamp to be released in a less populated area. No word on where the animal originally came from.
