Legally Blind Hiker Found Six Days After Going Missing

A legally blind hiker who was lost on the Appalachian Trail for six days was found alive and healthy Saturday afternoon.

He was found after he lit a signal fire, his colleague at Backpacking Light and a member of the search party, Ryan Jordan, told the Ann Arbor News. The fire, which burned out of control and turned into a two-acre brush fire, prompted firefighters and other rescuers to go to his location near Snowden, Virginia.

A nine-year-old Hillsboro, Texas boy, whose head was detached in a car accident three months ago, has miraculously survived and is recovering after doctors reattached his skull to his spine.

"As far as I'm concerned, he has a full recovery -- he is neurologically intact. He walks -- that's one of the biggest things. He isn't weak and is active; it's amazing," Dr. Richard Roberts, the pediatric surgeon who led an operation to reattach the skull of Jordan Taylor to his spine with a metal plate and titanium rods, told CBS News on Monday. "He's done better than anyone thought he would. His injury is normally catastrophic, fatal, and he managed to survive."

Family Friends, Father Convicted In 2005 Rape Of 3-Year-Old Girl

Prosecutors won convictions against three men for raping a 3-year-old girl in 2005, one of the men is the child's father and the other two are family friends.

The child's mother earlier pleaded guilty to child exploitation charges and is serving a 10-year sentence, the girl is being cared for by her maternal grandmother, who was the first to report the abuse after the child complained that she had been injured.
