Docs Say Woman Survived Paragliding Accident Because Of Her Washboard Abs
A woman survived a paragliding accident in Andalusia, Spain because her "washboard" stomach muscles provided protection to her other organs. A strong gust of wind sent Peggy Williams, 47, plummeting more than 20 feet from the sky, landing on a rocky outcrop, England's The Daily Telegraph reported.
Remorseful Thief Returns Stolen Cash
A teen from a Chicago suburb returned the $167 he stole from a Dunkin' Donuts store, but police say he didn't get off the hook for his crime. The 17-year-old from Hinsdale, Ill. will face charges of aggravated robbery despite his remorse, which drove him to return to the doughnut store the day after he robbed it to give back the stolen money, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Visitors, Workers At New Mexico Lab May Have Been Exposed To Nuclea Materials
Nearly 2,000 current and former Los Alamos National Laboratory employees and visitors may have been exposed to beryllium in the lab and may be at risk of disease. Beryllium is an extremely light, hard, non-radioactive silver-gray metal that is purified to use in nuclear weapons and reactors, aerospace work, electronics, golf clubs and bicycle frames. However, in a particulate or finely powdered form it is hazardous and can cause chronic beryllium disease that impairs lung function.
Doughnut Pelting Prankster Arrested
A prank grew out of control and resulted in the arrest of a man who threw doughnuts at a bicyclist, then threatened the man with knives. A man on a bicycle decided to pursue a teen in a car who threw a Krispy Kreme glazed donut at him in Atlantic Beach, Fla.
Girl Killed After Being Hit By Bicycle Had Pre-existing Brain Condition
Coroners said Friday that a 17-year-old girl who died after being struck by a bicycle had a pre-existing brain condition that left her more vulnerable to the effects of impact. Eveylyn E. Bolen, a special needs student, was walking on the school track in gym class with friends Wednesday when a 15-year-old boy who was riding the coach's bike accidentally struck her with the bicycle. WBST reported the boy told police he looked behind him because he thought he heard someone call his name, and when he turned forward again, Bolen was right in front of him. He slammed on the brakes, tumbling over the handlebars and onto Bolen.
