Sharif Ignores House Arrest, Leads Protest March To Pakistan Capital

Pakistani opposition leader Nawaz Sharif on Sunday ignored his house arrest and left home to lead a protest march to the capital as police clashed with his supporters to break their advance.

Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League, drove to a supporters' rally in Lahore and from there set off a convoy of cars heading to Islamabad. The caravan will stop in Rawalpindi on Monday so Sharif can fetch his brother, Shahbaz, who is also under house arrest.

Critics of President Barack Obama's stimulus plan took to the streets in St. Louis to protest his stimulus package and symbolically toss tea into the Mississippi River.

The protest, organized by conservative activists and talk-radio hosts, took place despite the blustering cold 35-degree weather.

An anti-pornography Austrian activist is demanding from officials in the Alpine city of Innsbruck the immediate removal of a large crucifix bearing a sculpture of a naked Jesus Christ.

A local radio station reported that Martin Humer is pressuring authorities to remove the crucifix from a public square where it has been displayed for 20 years.

Philippine Justice Chief To Sell Chickens To Help Administration Senatorial Bets

The Philippine Justice chief has proven again that he is the ultimate defender of the beleaguered Arroyo administration. On Tuesday, Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez vowed to sell chickens to raise the $210 reward he promised to barangay (village) chieftains who can deliver a 12-0 sweep for the pro-administration senatorial bets.

Gonzales, who owns a livestock farm in Iloilo province said, "It's easy. This is just one [chicken] harvest. I can have the funds I need to support the [administration] candidates."
