Greek police officers are stunned after a helicopter landed in the high security prison and picked up a couple of inmates, before flying away.

A police official said, "the guards thought it was a surprise inspection by ministry officials and did nothing."

The 34-year-old man, who has been kept unidentified, is wanted in connection with a serious assault and was spotted by an officer on a bicycle on a side road. The man jumped on to a horse and cart and galloped away.
