Mother, Son In Spain Die From Mad Cow Disease

A woman has died in Spain of the human version of mad cow disease, following the death of her son in February of the same disease, Spain's Ministry of Health says.

This marks the first time that two members of the same family have died of the disease, health researchers say.

Man Lives Nine Years With Surgical Needle In His Stomach

A South African man was awarded $6,112 by a court after living with a surgical needle in his stomach for nine years.

According to the Independent Online, Jacob Makeke, 48 was hospitalized after being kicked in the stomach by a cow while working as a farm laborer in 1996. Following a necessary abdominal surgery, Makeke continued to experience pain and vomiting and was treated as an outpatient until finally, in 2005, with pain so bad he couldn't work well, he went to the Groblersdal Hospital where an x-ray picked up the needle that was left behind in the 1996 surgery.

Giant Microbes, a toy manufacturer based in Connecticut has turned microscopic images of viruses and bugs, which also include malaria, mad cow disease, salmonella, Ebola, acne, rabies, black death and the good old influenza virus into 5-to-7 inch dolls.

Police Impound Car Carrying Two Cows And Two Goats, Driver Escapes

South African police impounded a blue Fiat Uno car that was being used to transport stolen cattle. Responding to a tip-off that a man was seen in the Phelindaba area loading a cow to the tiny car, two police officers immediately proceeded to the area.

However, by the time the two officers arrived, the driver had loaded the care with two cows and two goats and was attempting to speed away.
