Online Therapy Seen As More Effective Treatment Option For Insomnia
Researchers have found that online therapy for insomniacs was more effective than the traditional face-to-face intervention to treat the sleeping disorder. The researchers from the University of Virginia Health System, Charlottesville tested an online version of cognitive behavioral therapy, a psychological treatment focusing on the behaviors and dysfunctional thoughts that contribute to sleep problems, on 44 adults who have an average 10 years of sleep difficulties. The therapy called SHUTi was developed as an alternative to the traditional therapy, which is limited in availability due to its high cost, lack of trained therapists and their inaccessibility.
Daryl Hannah Arrested During Environmental Coal Mining Protest
Daryl Hannah has been arrested. The 48-year-old actress was taking part in a protest against mountaintop coalmining - which sees the tops of mountains blown away to help miners get at deposits inside - during which a West Virginia road was blocked Tuesday. Daryl - who is a long-term environmental activist - and 30 other people blocked traffic by sitting on a stretch of road outside a Massey Energy Company plant, prompting police to intervene.
Retired U.S. Navy Warship Sunk In Florida Keys To Become World's Second-Largest Artificial Reef
Decommissioned U.S. Navy warship USNS General Hoyt S. Vandenberg was sunk Wednesday morning 6 ˝ miles off Key West in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary to become the world's second-largest artificial coral reef. A total 42 explosive charges were used to create a pattern of holes in the side of the ship and its decks sending it 140 feet deep into its final resting place in the Gulf of Mexico in less than two minutes. The Artificial Reefs of the Keys led the $8.6 million project to make the Vandenberg an artificial reef.
Virginia Prison Escapee Recaptured After 27 Years Of Hiding In Georgia
A convicted robber who escaped from a Virginia prison was recaptured in Eton, Georgia Wednesday after 27 years of hiding. Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Richard Boucher, 56, and his wife, Debbie Coleman, 53, at their home in the tiny town of 350. Both are detained at the Whitfield County Detention Facility pending extradition to Virginia.
World's Oldest Dog Turns 21 With Birthday Party, Cake
Chanel, a dachshund, celebrated her 21st birthday with a party complete with cake Wednesday. Her owners, Denice and Karl Shaugnessey, took her to Manhattan's Dog Hotel and Spa for the milestone birthday party, where they were presented with a certificate from a Guinness World Records official confirming Chanel's rank as oldest dog, England's The Daily Telegraph reported.
