Pastor, Wife, Fireman Charged With Laundering Drug Money Through Mortgages In Miami

A pastor, his wife and a fire captain have been arrested by FBI agents in Miami and have been charged in a 59-count indictment involving drug dealing and mortgage fraud.

Defendants Garry Souffrant, 33, and Yvonne Souffrant, 33, husband and wife, both of Davie, FL, Gamaliel Souffrant, a/k/a Neal Souffrant, 44, Garry Souffrant's brother, of Pembroke Pines, FL, and their company, Progressive Real Estate of Broward, Inc., have all been charged in connection with a long term mortgage fraud scheme designed to launder drug money.

Passenger Safely Lands Plane In Florida After Pilot Dies In Air

A pilot of a two-engine plane died shortly after takeoff from Marco Island, Florida Sunday but a single-engine plane pilot was fortunately aboard and safely landed the plane guided by air traffic controllers.

Doug White, 56, landed the 10-seater Super King Air at the Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers saving the lives of his wife and two teenage daughters, who were also aboard the turboprop plane for a trip to Louisiana.

Thousands Of South Florida VA Patients May Have Been Exposed To HIV, Hepatitis During Colonoscopies

Patients getting a colonoscopy at the Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare System over the last five years may have been exposed to hepatitis and HIV because of unsanitized equipment used during the procedures.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs sent letters out to more than 3,000 people this week who may have had a colonoscopy with the tainted equipment between 2004 and 2009. The tubing for the scopes were rinsed but not disinfected, CNN reported.

Miami Veterans Hospital Flooded With Calls From Patients Exposed To Hepatitis, HIV

The Miami Veterans' Hospital on Tuesday received 2,662 telephone calls from patients who were worried they may have been infected with the hepatitis virus and HIV from unclean equipment after undergoing colonoscopy there.

A total 351 veterans also visited Veterans Affairs (VA) clinics in Miami and Fort Lauderdale for consultation a day after the agency informed them via letter on Monday that colonoscopy equipment used on patients since 2004 were only rinsed and not disinfected by hospital staff as required. .
