EU Rules Germany Can't Call Cheese "Parmesan"

Germans who produced cheese were disappointed after the European Union's highest court ruled Tuesday that only the cheese made in Northern Italy can be officially called "Parmesan."

"Only cheeses bearing the protected designation of origin 'Parmigiano Reggiano' can be sold under the name 'Parmesan,'" said the European Court of Justice in a Luxembourg ruling.

Cheese Thief Nabbed In "Getaway" Cement Mixer

Police officers on Thursday nabbed a 55-year-old man who stole a packet of cheese from a local supermarket and then tried to elude arrest by using a cement mixer as his "getaway car."

"He was out on the job and suddenly got hungry, as honest workers sometimes do," said police spokesman in the eastern city of Chemnitz.

August Is Celebrated As National Sandwich Month

As National Sandwich Month begins a study reveals the most popular sandwich amongst Americans. According to the study the "Monte Cristo" sandwich, composed of ham, chicken, and Swiss cheese is the favorite sandwich choice.

A Texas A&M University study also reveals that Americans eat more than 45 million sandwiches annually with an average U.S. citizen consuming about 200 sandwiches a year. The study also estimates that an average child will eat around 1,500 peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches before graduating from high school.

California House Owners Get Mail Meant For Hotel Once A Week

For the past six years, the owners of a 40-year-old ocean-view home in the upscale Monarch Beach area in California are inundated by bundles of letters, crates of wine, cheese platters, and other raw food materials.

The crazy stuff began arriving at their residence address six years ago when the five-star hotel opened at 1 Monarch Beach Resort. While the home of Harold and Martha Smith is nearly 40-years-old and located at 1 Monarch Bay, it is often confused by the postal department for newly opened St. Regis Resort about 1 1/2 miles away.

People Await Beef After The Only Grocery Store In Town Gets Robbed

A 23-year-old man in Minersville, Utah reportedly broke into the only grocery store in Mitown and spoiled $7,000 worth of goods Sunday. Now the customers in the town would have to wait for a week until the store's next delivery comes on Wednesday.

The refrigerated section at Todd's Market was allegedly ransacked and spoiled by Christopher Souda, who took almost everything including ribeye steaks, roasts, pork chops and the cheese section.
