NY Man To Cross Atlantic Ocean For Third Time In AIDS Awareness Stunt

A man from New York will attempt for the third time to cross the Atlantic Ocean from Cape Verde in western Africa to the New York harbor in the U.S. in December to raise awareness on AIDS.

Victor Mooney, 43, of Forest Hills will use the boat Never Give Up donated by French adventurer Charlie Girard in rowing from San Antao to the Brooklyn Bridge on December 1 or World AIDS Day.

Retired U.S. Navy Warship Sunk In Florida Keys To Become World's Second-Largest Artificial Reef

Decommissioned U.S. Navy warship USNS General Hoyt S. Vandenberg was sunk Wednesday morning 6 ˝ miles off Key West in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary to become the world's second-largest artificial coral reef.

A total 42 explosive charges were used to create a pattern of holes in the side of the ship and its decks sending it 140 feet deep into its final resting place in the Gulf of Mexico in less than two minutes. The Artificial Reefs of the Keys led the $8.6 million project to make the Vandenberg an artificial reef.

Obvious File: Fishing Carries Risk Of Drowning

A 10-year study made by the Canadian Red Cross on drownings and other water-related injuries across the nation showed that fishing topped the list of causes of water-related deaths in Canada from 1991 to 2000.

Of the 5,900 water-related fatalities, there were 889 people who drowned, accounting for 15 percent. It was followed by swimming with 751 cases, playing or walking near water 669, road travel 538, powerboating 427, bathing 394 and canoeing 205.

A family's pet dog fell overboard in rough seas off the coast of Australia four months ago has been reunited with its owners after surviving a solitary four month stay on an island.

The dog, Sophie Tucker, fell overboard November when Jan Griffith and her family sailed through choppy waters off the coast of northeast Queensland.

Feds Seize Madoff's 55-Foot Yacht In Florida

U.S. Marshals seized two boats belonging to convicted money manager Bernard Madoff and his wife just a day after a judge froze the assets of his family members.

The 55-yacht, named "Bull" was seized from a marina in Davie, Fla. A second boat, called "little bull" was seized from a Palm City marina.
