Atheists Sue To Prevent Prayer, Oath To God In Obama Inauguration
Atheists have filed a lawsuit before the U.S. District Court in Columbia to prevent president-elect Barack Obama from swearing to God and stop religious figures from saying prayers during the presidential inauguration. The suit filed by Dan Barker, co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, and 28 other atheists and agnostics attending the presidential inauguration on Jan. 20 next year seeks to enjoin Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts Jr., from adding the phrase "So help me God" to the presidential oath of office as well as stop the Presidential Inaugural Committee from sponsoring prayers at the ceremony.
Prince Charles Criticizes Poor English Grammar In The U.K.
Britain's Prince Charles has criticized the poor standards of English grammar in the United Kingdom. The prince - who was speaking at the Georgian Group awards in London's The Ritz hotel Wednesday - insisted people need to concentrate on using apostrophes properly and constructing sentences correctly. He said: "It seems to me that you need to remind people every now and then that you can't communicate to people in a language unless you know the grammar and the syntax and, indeed, the punctuation."
Ohio Man Spends 18 Years In Prison Before DNA Tests Clear Him Of Rape
"Hello, truth. Hello, freedom." The slogan was printed on the T-shirt Robert McClendon wore in court Monday when his release from prison was ordered, 18 years after conviction of child rape. Franklin County's Common Pleas Court Judge Charles A. Schneider ordered the release of McClendon, 52, of Columbus after new DNA tests showed that semen in the underwear of the then 10-year-old rape victim was not his.
Reports Say British Hospitals Under Attack By Fleas, Mice, Other Pests
British hospitals are under attack from a variety of pests, according to reports obtained under U.K.'s Freedom of Information Act. From January 2006 to March 2008, almost 20,000 incidents of infestations were reported by the National Health System. They included sightings of rats, mice, fleas, bedbugs, ants and cockroaches.
