Cebu Pacific Airplane Stuck On Manila Airport Runway
An airplane of Philippine budget carrier Cebu Pacific got stuck in the runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Wednesday morning, delaying or cancelling domestic and international flights. Candice Lyog, spokesperson for Cebu Pacific, said the A320 aircraft was on its way to General Santos, in southern Philippines, when its rear left wheel sank about five-inches deep into a still soft asphalt portion of the runway.
From A War Zone To Peace Sanctuary
From centers of conflict from the 1970s to the early 1990s, four communities in Sitio Alimodian in Barangay (village) Banayal in Tulunan town, Cotabato in southern Philippines on Monday celebrate 17 years as "sanctuary of peace." The town of Tulunan used to be the frequent site of fighting between government security forces and communist rebels, the New People's Army until the 1990s. The town gained international notoriety in the 1980s when a leader of a civilian paramilitary cult cannibalized Italian missionary Tulio Favali.
Over 300 Stranded Dolphins Lead To Open Seas
Fishermen, volunteers and Philippine Coast Guard personnel all joined hands to assist the estimated over 330 melon-nosed dolphins stranded in Bataan province near the capital Manila on Tuesday. Bataan Gov. Enrique Garcia, Jr. said residents in Mariveles, Bataas first reported seeing the huge number of beached dolphins at around 2:30 am.
Liquor Firm Reports Profit Gains As More People Drink In Times Of Crisis
A leading liquor company in the Philippines which sells brandy and gin among others, reported a 300 percent rise in profits last year as more people drink in times of crisis. Tanduay Holdings Inc., said the sale of a special purpose company intended to buy and sell bank's bad assets, also helped pump revenues.
Vintage WWII Bombs Discovered Inside U.S. Embassy
Workers digging through the south wing extension project at the United States Embassy compound in Manila, Philippines were surprised to discover 40 unexploded World War II bombs. Security personnel, backed by the Manila police, immediately sealed off the area where the bombs were found and the U.S. Embassy quickly closed offices early.
