Man Arrested After Using Smelly Money

If you're going to bail your friend of jail, it's probably a good idea not to use currency that smells like illegal drugs. 45-year old Timothy Richards is under arrest for posting bond for this brother-in-law using $400 that police say police smelled like marijuana. Officials say a jailer with Decatur County Sheriff's Department thought the damp bills gave off an unusual odor. A dispatcher and state trooper took whiffs of the money and also came to the same conclusion Richards gave consent for authorities to search his car, where police found marijuana and a pipe. Despite the odor from Richards' money, he was still able to use it to get his brother-in-law released. Unfortunately, Richards had to wait in jail while his brother-in-law came back with $250 for his bond. If convicted, Richards faces up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine on drug possession charges.
