No Doubt's Touring Entourage Includes Numerous Nannies
No Doubt are competing to see who takes the most nannies on tour. The "Don't Speak" hitmakers kick-off their "Summer Reunion Tour" on May 16 and because the majority of the band are parents, they will need extra help. Lead singer Gwen Stefani said: "I think we're going to sleep a lot less than we ever have. Normally, you sleep the whole day, which was my favorite part about touring, but that's a thing of the past. We get to see a lot more of the country, though, because we're actually leaving the hotel room."
Drowsy Driving Causes Almost 2,000 Deaths A Year
Sleepy American motorists behind the wheels caused 1,550 deaths and 40,000 injuries a year, according to a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Another report by the National Sleep Foundation places a larger estimate on the negative effects of drowsy driving at 71,000 injuries and 5,500 deaths annually. Medical experts compare the negative effects of drowsy drinking to driving under the influence. Dr. Carol Ash, medical director of the Somerset Medical Center's Sleep for Life, explained sleep deprivation for 18 hours makes a person feel drunk with an equivalent effect on the brain of a blood alcohol level of 1.0.
Groundhogs Disagree Over Winter Weather
Monday was Groundhog Day, a time for people to wait outside groundhog burrows to wait and see if the creatures would see their shadows, meaning six more weeks of winter, or not. Punxsutawney Phil, the nation's most famous groundhog, emerged from his burrow 80 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, PA, to clear skies and 20 degree weather.
Freshman U.S. Congressman Sleeps In Office To Save Money
A freshman congressman from Utah is trying to save $1,500 monthly on rental expenses by sleeping on his office, at least after office hours. Representative Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, tells CNN he gets good pay as a congressman, but if you add up other expenses and the future of his family, every amount saved is worth it.
Ugandan Woman Gives Birth To 6.5 Lb. Baby Girl Aboard Northwest Flight On Way To U.S.
Northwest Airlines Flight 59 left the Netherlands on Wednesday enroute to the United States with 124 passengers and arrived on New Year's Day with 125 passengers. The extra passenger was baby girl Sasha, who was born mid-air to an Ugandan woman. Most of the passengers were from Europe and India. While the plane was cruising above Halifax in Canada, the flight crew roused the air passengers from their sleep asking if there was a doctor on board.
