Feds Says Churches Conned With "Free" Computers

Offers of free office equipment to African American churches are cons that may wipe out the churches' bank accounts, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The warning was issued Friday after recent incidents in which several churches were offered computers that church staff were told would be paid for by a "sponsor." The staff were told to sign a lease for the equipment and deposit checks from the sponsor to cover the checks.
