Power Line Birds Scared By Balloon Cut Power In Miami Neighborhood

Some 300 birds perched on a power line were suddenly startled and cut a cable with their weight downing electricity in a Miami neighborhood Monday.

The birds flew when a singing balloon with the picture of Disney Channel TV character Hannah Montana touched the cable of an electric pole outside Jose De Diego Middle School along NW Fifth Avenue and scared them at 7:30 a.m. The cut line fell on the ground causing a power outage in a five-block radius for a few hours.

A squirrel reportedly caused a short circuit in an electrical substation, leaving a large area of downtown Richmond without electricity on Friday from 9 a.m. until early afternoon. Crews making repairs to the facility have to shut down a second substation.

California Police Make Arrests, Seize Pot Plants, At Upscale Suburban Marijuana Grow Houses

Police in California seized hundreds of pot plants, $384,000 in cash and arrested six people in connection with marijuana grow houses.

Eight warrants were served Tuesday and marijuana plants were found at indoor grow operations in two large, well-maintained upscale suburban homes in El Dorado Hills and Placerville. The other warrants were served in Cameron Park - where marijuana growing equipment was found - and in Placerville, Lincoln, Sacramento and Elk Grove.
