Huge Cache Of Spanish Empire Beads Found Off Georgia Coast

About 70,000 glass beads from all around the world have been found on an island off Georgia. It's the largest 17th century bead repository ever found at what is believed to be one of the Spanish empire's most remote and wealth outposts.

The beads, made of French and Chinese blue glass, Dutch layered glass and Baltic amber, were discovered as part of a continuing research project at the former Mission Santa Catalina de Gaule on what is now known as St. Catherine's Island off the coast of Georgia. The site, founded in the 16th century, was the capital and administrative center for the province of Guale in Spanish Florida for almost a century, according to a statement from the American Museum of Natural History.

Study Claims Chinese Cyber Spies Steal Data From Foreign Governments

China's cyber espionage operation has been stealing sensitive information from government office computers in 103 countries, according to Canadian researchers.

A team of researchers at the University of Toronto has found that China's GhostNet system had sent e-mails containing malware to target computers. The malware prompts the infected computer to download a Trojan program called ghost RAT, which allow attackers to control the computers and bring its data to servers in mainland China.

UK Green Party Adviser Says Having More Than 2 Kids Is Irresponsible

Britain's chief environmental adviser said the climate could no longer sustain couples having more than two children. John Porritt, who chairs the UK government's Sustainable Development Commission, told a British newspaper that parents having three or more children are "irresponsible," and that the government should spend money on family planning, abortion and contraception programs to curb the country's population growth. "I am unapologetic about asking people to connect their own responsibility for their total environmental footprint and how they decide to procreate and how many children they think are appropriate," he said. "I think we will work our way towards a position that says having more than two children is irresponsible," he added. A report on the topic will go to the government next month. Porritt also chastised other environmental groups for not making the same connection between population control and environmental responsibility. Porritt's comments outraged anti-abortion groups and conservative politicians, who compared his views to those held by the communist Chinese government. One group said such policies end up favoring male children and often result in increased infanticide rates. Britain's population of 61 million is expected to exceed 70 million people by 2028, due largely to increased birth rates among immigrants and high teen pregnancy rates.
