Beer Helps Bring Couples Together In Wife-Carrying Contest

An Olympics more to some men's tastes is brewing this weekend in this small Finnish town. The winner receives his wife's weight in beer.

More than 50 couples from countries around Europe are registered for Saturday's 16th annual Wife Carrying World Championships. The rules are simple, even if the contest isn't necessarily easy. The wife-even a borrowed one- is carried by the man-piggyback, on his shoulders, or however he can manage-around a quarter-kilometer (.15 miles) course made up of sand, asphalt and grass over logs and through three feet of water.

Chinese Woman Writes Letters To Husband 14 Years After Death

A Chinese woman has reportedly continued to write letters addressed to her husband who passed away 14 years ago, in her attempt to keep his memory alive.

Admitting that she was still suffering from her loss, 75-year old Wan Fengxia said that she still wrote letters, each one expressing her love for him, as well as the memories she had of him.

Protesters Target Chinese Terracotta Soldiers At The British Museum

A couple of pro-Tibetan protesters in London launched their own demonstration on Tuesday by targeting 12 Chinese Terracotta soldiers on display at the British Army museum.

Martin Wyness and Mark Trepte snuck into the museum and hung placards saying "Stop Killing Tibetans" and "Boycott the Chinese Olympics" around the necks of the two 2,200-year-old statues.

Survey: Three Out Of Four Local Chinese Excited About Beijing Olympics

Excitement, enthusiasm, and national pride are running high among local Chinese in anticipation of the Beijing 2008 Olympics Games, a survey released Monday revealed.

The survey 'Project 2008 Poll, conducted for public relations and advertising company Ogilvy in China and Milward Brown ACSR, showed that 74 percent of Chinese were "excited or very excited" about China hosting its first Olympics and a high degree of "national pride" in the games, prevails among 72 percent who said they were proud of China.

An official from the Chinese government stated that the country is expecting a mad rush of people looking to get hitched on the opening day of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Speculations are circling around the superstition that the date of the Olympics - August 8, 2008 (8-8-08) - as bearing what many Chinese consider the number of luck.
