Gibraltar Monkeys To Be Culled For Annoying Tourists
Gibraltar authorities say they will kill 25 monkeys annoying and endangering people at this British colony's tourism areas, a move that has angered conservationists. Gibraltar tourism minister Ernest Britto made the decision to cull the Barbary macaques because the monkeys enter and ransack rooms of hotels in Catalan Bay and Sandy Bay looking for food. The Belfast Telegraph also quoted the minister as saying that the apes frighten children and their bites can cause salmonella and hepatitis infection.
Priests Brawl During Holiday Cleanup Of Bethlehem Church
Long-standing rivalries between Greek Orthodox and Armenian priests broke into a brawl during holiday cleaning on Thursday inside the church of the Nativity. The Greek Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic authorities and Roman Catholic religious groups jointly administer the basilica, which is considered holy by Christians who believe it sits over the site in Bethlehem where many believe Jesus was born. When any one of those groups thinks that their turf has been encroached on, it causes problems.
Canoeist Resurfaces after Five-Year Absence
After disappearing five years ago, a canoeist reportedly walked into a police station in central London, identifying himself as missing person John Darwin. Darwin had disappeared in 2002 after going on a canoe trip and failing to return. He was last seen setting off towards some rocks at around 9 a.m. in March, 2002. When he did not turn up during the night shift at his job at the Holme House prison, a search spanning 16 hours was started along the coast of the Seaton Carew beach, where his shattered canoe washed up, followed up his paddle weeks after.
Texas Girl Finds Rocks When Buying iPod
A 14-year-old area girl twice found rocks rather than rock-and-roll when purchasing an iPod at local Target stores. Regan Ritter discovered the rock-filled iPod packaging after seeking to buy the digital media device for her birthday. At Forth Worth, Ritter used her mom's $350 Target credit card. After returning it, the store offered a credit at a Grand Prairie Target. At the Grand Prairie store, Ritter and her mom opened an iPod video package in front of store personnel and again found a package full of rocks.
