UK Green Party Adviser Says Having More Than 2 Kids Is Irresponsible
Britain's chief environmental adviser said the climate could no longer sustain couples having more than two children. John Porritt, who chairs the UK government's Sustainable Development Commission, told a British newspaper that parents having three or more children are "irresponsible," and that the government should spend money on family planning, abortion and contraception programs to curb the country's population growth. "I am unapologetic about asking people to connect their own responsibility for their total environmental footprint and how they decide to procreate and how many children they think are appropriate," he said. "I think we will work our way towards a position that says having more than two children is irresponsible," he added. A report on the topic will go to the government next month. Porritt also chastised other environmental groups for not making the same connection between population control and environmental responsibility. Porritt's comments outraged anti-abortion groups and conservative politicians, who compared his views to those held by the communist Chinese government. One group said such policies end up favoring male children and often result in increased infanticide rates. Britain's population of 61 million is expected to exceed 70 million people by 2028, due largely to increased birth rates among immigrants and high teen pregnancy rates.
Greetings Cards By The Late Princess Diana Sold For $3,800 At Auction
Greetings cards written by Britain's late Princess Diana have sold for $3,800. The two cards - which belonged to former royal chef Mervyn Wycherley who worked for the royal family for 23 years - were expecting to fetch around $1,500 but a bidding war broke out when they went on sale at auction house Reeman Dansie in Colchester, Essex on Monday. Auctioneer James Grinter said: "It's a very buoyant market, it has not been affected at all by the credit crunch. People would rather invest their money into something they can keep in their home and enjoy and which will hopefully rise in value."

Researchers Find Two Popular Fertility Treatments No Better Than Natural Method
Two common fertility treatments involving an ovary-stimulating drug and artificial insemination to improve the chances of conceiving a child yields the same results as no treatment at all, according to a study published Friday. Clomifene citrate, best known by its brand names Clomid and Serophene, a drug used by millions of women in recent decades to stimulate ovaries to produce eggs, failed to improve the odds of becoming pregnant, researchers in Britain said.
