German Thief Caught With 68 Tubes Of Toothpaste

Police in northern Germany are still looking for a man who attempted to leave a supermarket with 68 tubes of toothpaste concealed in his clothing.

"We don't know if he had bad teeth," a police spokeswoman in Rostock said Friday, according to Reuters.

Report Says Office Computers Left Open Overnight Cost Firms $2.8 Billion A Year

Global information technology firm 1E released on Tuesday its 2009 PC Energy Report which showed that office computers left open overnight cost American firms $2.8 billion yearly.

The amount is for 108 million unused PCs, which also discharge 20 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. That is equivalent to tailpipe emissions of 4 million vehicles.

Amid Global Crisis, Bundesbank Of Germany Registers $8 Billion Profit In 2008

While banks across the U.S. and European Union reported record-high losses in 2008, the national Bundesbank of Germany registered an $8 billion profit last year.

Bundesbank president Axel Weber disclosed on Tuesday in a press conference the large profit enjoyed by the bank, which is a 50 percent increase compared to 2007. Weber said the higher profit came even if there was a substantial hike in reserves.

Leukemia, HIV Patient Symptom Free Two Years After Stem Cell Transplant

A German man with HIV and leukemia is free of HIV symptoms and there is no sign of the virus in his blood stream after he received a stem cell transplant from a person carrying a gene mutation resistant to HIV, the disease that causes AIDS.

The man received the transplant two years ago and his doctors report in the New England Journal of Medicine that he has been HIV-free despite taking no antiretroviral drugs since the procedure.

Marrow Transplant Cures AIDS Patient In Germany

An American in Germany afflicted with leukemia and AIDS has been cured of the immune system disease after receiving a bone marrow transplant meant to cure his blood disease, his doctor claimed Thursday.

Hematologist Gero Huetter, 39, only identified the patient as a 42-year-old man living in Berlin and being treated at the city's Charité Medical University. The man has been suffering from AIDS for more than 10 years and also has leukemia.
