Chinese Authorities Shut Down Bootlegging Operation
At least 10 people have been arrested and more than 7,000 bottles of phony whiskey, cognac and other spirits seized following a months-long investigation into a nationwide bootlegging operation. The gang, headed by a 45-year-old man identified only by his surname, Lai, collected empty, discarded bottles of name brand liquors such as Chivas Regal and Remy Martin, and then filled them with generic drinking alcohol blended to taste, look, and smell like the real thing.

A Japanese soft drink bottled and made to look like beer, may soon be available throughout Europe, but watchdogs of underage drinking say they will fight any effort to ship it to the United States, reports The New York Times. The potent drink has an alcohol content of a staggering 25.4 percent. Bavarian brewer Harald Schneider, who lives in southern Germany where beer is a strong tradition, says his beer fermented for 12 weeks for an alcohol content twice that of the country's strongest known beers.

Teenager Turns In Drunk Bus Driver
A teenager turns in a substitute school bus driver who smelled of alcohol as he sped down the road with the schoolchildren on board, police say. The 17-year-old girl, whose name was not released, ushered a group of remaining students off the bus when she reached her stop.
