Miami Teen Rescued From Cougar Attack

A trespassing Miami teen age girl was mauled by a cougar at a neighbor's house but survived the attack.

The 16-year-old girl reportedly illegally entered the animal's cage at a neighbor's house and was attacked. The girl has been hospitalized with injuries and is expected to recover.

School Expels Student For Bringing Pistol To Class, Police Files Charge

An 8-year-old Florida third grader who brought a loaded handgun to his school and showed it to a classmate on Friday has been charged by police and suspended by the school.

Aside from charging the unnamed student of Walker Elementary School with illegally bringing a deadly weapon to school, Fort Lauderdale police plans to charge the owner of the 9mm pistol with improper storage of a firearm. Meanwhile, school district spokeswoman Nadine Drew said the boy will be expelled, according to the Miami Herald.

Power Line Birds Scared By Balloon Cut Power In Miami Neighborhood

Some 300 birds perched on a power line were suddenly startled and cut a cable with their weight downing electricity in a Miami neighborhood Monday.

The birds flew when a singing balloon with the picture of Disney Channel TV character Hannah Montana touched the cable of an electric pole outside Jose De Diego Middle School along NW Fifth Avenue and scared them at 7:30 a.m. The cut line fell on the ground causing a power outage in a five-block radius for a few hours.

Former U.S. Pilot Confirms British Declassified Report About UFO Encounter In '57

A former U.S. Air Force pilot based at Britain's Royal Air Force station in southeastern England confirmed a recently declassified report stating that he was ordered but failed to shoot down an unidentified flying object in 1957.

Retired U.S. airman Milton Torres confirmed that he and a co-pilot were ordered to intercept the UFOs that appeared on the radar of the RAF airfield in Manston in Kent, England.

"Enslaved" Cuban Shipyard Laborers Win $80 Million Florida Court Verdict

A federal court in Miami awarded Monday $80 million in damages to three Cuban workers of a Curacao shipyard firm that forced them to work 16 hours a day without pay.

Fernando Alonso Hernández won $30 million in damages from the Curacao Drydock Co. while compatriots Alberto Justo Rodríguez and Luis Alberto Casanova Toledo received $25 million each. The three filed the lawsuit in 2006 after escaping from the shipyard in the Curacao capital of Willemstad.
