Man Who Sent Threatening, Hoax Letters To Banks Arrested In New Mexico Airport

Federal officials on Tuesday announced the arrest of a New Mexico man suspected of sending 65 hoax letters containing blackboard chalk powder to banks and government offices in October.

Special agents and postal inspectors arrested Richard Leon Goyette, 47, Monday at the airport in Albuquerque, said officials of the U.S. Attoryney's Office for the Northern District of Texas, the Dallas FBI and the Fort Worth Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Goyette appeared before a federal magistrate in Albuquerque and will be returned to Texas to face the charges.

U.S. Postal Service In Worst Financial Shape Since 1775

The U.S. Postal Service has been hit by a double whammy, leading to its worst financial performance since it was established in 1775. Over the last two years, the service's total loss reached $7.9 billion.

The decline in income are due to the economic slowdown which has led to less mails being sent by businesses and individuals and increasing use of email and other forms of electronic communication.

Monster.com Hacked For Third Time

Data of millions of users of Monster.com, including 4.5 million in the United Kingdom, have been stolen as the online job recruitment site said hackers have breached its database.

Monster senior vice president Patrick Manzo on Thursday confirmed in a statement that the site was hacked one week ago. Manzo said that except for CVs, user names, passwords, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses, alongside demographic data, birth dates, gender and ethnicity were stolen.
